SUMMARY:Women@Workplace Pride and Academia@Workplace Pride invite you to: “The Power of Women in the Age of super-diversity”
DESCRIPTION:August 30th\, 2023\, Leiden \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nDetailsProgram\n\nWomen & Academia @WorkplacePride and the strategic alliance of the LDE Universities\, the LUMC\, and Erasmus MC are happy to present an event that will explore the difference between genders in the workplace and how this affects productivity\, innovation\, sense of belonging and psychological safety among cis-women\, lesbian\, bisexual\, trans-\, and queer (LBTQ+) people. \n\n\n\nExploration of the differences between genders  \n\n\n\nThe Women and Academia Workplace Pride communities\, explore the differences between genders: e.g.\, ideas brought forward by women are much more easily dismissed than ideas from their male counterparts. This doesn’t contribute to a sense of belonging and psychological safety\, affecting cis-women and predominantly lesbian\, bisexual\, transgender\, and queer (LBTQ+) people. In turn\, this will lead to reduced productivity and innovation. The Women@Workplace Pride Community would like to take this subject with you to the next level in this event since this topic was already put on the agenda at the Workplace Pride’s international conference in Utrecht last May. Furthermore\, this event is well timed as it coincides with the first Leiden Pride. \n\n\n\nOur keynote speaker is Prof. Annelien Bredenoord\, rector magnificus of Erasmus University Rotterdam\, who will cover the development of policies\, procedures and practices that promote an inclusive environment\, not only for the LGBTIQ+ community but also more broadly in society. She will discuss Erasmus University Rotterdam’s approach to diversity and inclusion in the diverse city of Rotterdam\, emphasising intersectionality. She will cover best practices\, like the IDEA Center (Inclusion\, Diversity\, Equity & Access)\, and share her personal story.    \n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday 30th of AugustTime: 14:00 – 18:00 hoursLocation: Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum(LUMC)\, Albinusdreef 2\, 2333 ZA Leiden\, at lecture hall 6 (Buruma hall)Audience: All Workplace Pride members & anyone interested in Inclusion & LGBTQI+ topics \n\n\n\nRegistrationThe event is in-person and will be partially streamed (see programme) and recorded for those not able to attend.  Please register using the Registration form  \n\n\n\nOrganisers \n\n\n\nThis event is initiated by Women@Workplace Pride and organised with Academia@WorkplacePride with the strategic alliance of the LDE Universities\, the LUMC\, and Erasmus MC. \n\n\n\nAccessibility \n\n\n\nWe want the event to be accessible to everyone. We hope that viewing a live stream contributes to this. Please note that the event location is wheelchair accessible. We will make sure to ask the speakers to articulate clearly. SUMMARY:International Non-Binary People’s Day
DESCRIPTION:International Non-Binary People’s Day takes place annually on 14 July each year and celebrates and raises awareness of non-binary people\, who do not identify within the traditional gender binary. This takes place during non-binary awareness week from Monday 11 July until Saturday 16 July 2022. \n\n\n\n Why 14 of July? \n\n\n\nThe date\, celebrated since 2012\, was chosen as it falls between International Women’s Day on 8 March and International Men’s Day on 19 November. \n\n\n\nWhat does non-binary mean? \n\n\n\nThe definition provided by Stonewall (Britain’s leading charity for lesbian\, gay\, bisexual and trans equality) is: “Non-binary is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity doesn’t sit comfortably with ‘man’ or ‘woman’. Non-binary identities are varied and can include people who identify with some aspects of binary identities\, while others reject them entirely. \n\n\n\n“Non-binary people can feel that their gender identity and gender experience involves being both a man and a woman\, or that it is fluid\, in between\, or completely outside of that binary.”

SUMMARY:Workplace Pride 2023 International Conference
DESCRIPTION:Workplace Pride invites you to our 2023 International Conference on May 26th at the Spoorwegmuseum in Utrecht\, The Netherlands. This annual gathering of many stakeholders highlights the progress the LGBTIQ+ workplace inclusion movement continues to make worldwide. But\, likewise\, there continues to be relentless challenges for the LGBTIQ+ community\, some of which even threaten our safety and well-being.  \n\n\n\nOur stakeholders often face various dilemmas\, such as: Which regions do we reach out to? Which laws and cultural practices are valid? How do we identify ourselves and our community members? Our decisions will likely influence policies\, practices\, and individuals for years to come. \n\n\n\nThis year’s conference theme is ‘Tracks of Change: Defining the future of LGBTIQ+ Workplace Inclusion’\, and what a fitting venue inside the Spoorwegmuseum!  \n\n\n\nSpeakers and sessions at the conference will address topics such as: \n\n\n\nHow are business leaders navigating the ethical and social issues of our time?Empowering LGBTIQ+ Employee NetworksThe Winding Road to Self-IDCreating Fully Gender-Inclusive Workplaces Enabling company-wide LGBTIQ+ inclusion for operational and office staff Empowering LGBTIQ+ Communities in the Global South\n\n\n\nDon’t miss this unique opportunity to speak with your peers about all aspects of LGBTIQ+ workplace inclusion and to determine the way forward for our movement collectively.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.spoorwegmuseum.nl/en/ \n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:International Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day
DESCRIPTION:What it Means to be Pansexual or Panromantic \n\n\n\n24 May is Pansexual and Panromantic Awareness and Visibility Day – but what exactly does it mean to be Pan? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo be pansexual is to have a sexual or romantic attraction not limited by gender\, or gender identity\, while to be panromantic is the same except without the sexual attraction. Attraction is not dependent on gender; pan people are attracted to the person before anything else. However\, this doesn’t mean they’re attracted to anyone and everyone!  \n\n\n\nThough it’s likely that pansexuality has always existed in some form\, to some degree\, it is surely no coincidence that pansexuality has become more recognised in a modern society where people are able to explore and express their sexuality more openly. We are becoming gradually more aware of the largely socially-constructed nature of binary gender separation\, and the fundamental nature of the shared humanity that unites us despite our comparatively superficial differences. Perhaps it’s not too much of a stretch to say that pansexuality reflects this.  \n\n\n\nAs Psychology Today (PT) states: \n\n\n\n”Younger generations [who are generally more open to non-traditional perspectives] and those who have a gender identity\, gender expression\, or gender role that society considers inappropriate for the sex one was assigned at birth (aka ‘non-cisgender’) are more likely to identify as pansexual.” \n\n\n\nWhatever the case\, all too often pansexuality isn’t taken seriously\, dismissed as an invented identity and casually conflated with bisexuality. But pansexuality is a legitimate sexuality in its own right\, distinguishable from bisexuality through its emphasis on being ‘gender-blind’.  \n\n\n\nPT elaborates: \n\n\n\n“Pansexuality is not equivalent to bisexuality\, because it is broader in scope. It explicitly rejects attractions based on binary notions of sex (male/female) and gender (man/woman). Whereas bisexuality implies a dichotomy\, pansexuality suggests the possibility of attraction to a spectrum of gender identities.” \n\n\n\nSinger/actor Miley Cyrus opened up about her pansexuality: \n\n\n\n“I always hated the word ‘bisexual\,’ because that’s putting me in a box. I never think about someone being a boy or a girl. I saw one human in particular who didn’t identify as male or female; they were beautiful\, sexy and tough but vulnerable\, feminine but masculine. I related to that person more than anyone in my life.” \n\n\n\nIt seems that many people identify as pansexual or panromantic because it gives their identity freedom to flow\, and enables them more room to be themselves without defining their sexuality so broadly they lose individuality. Ultimately\, it depends on how important labels are to a person\, and whether the structure it provides their sense of self outweighs the potential constraints on their identity. \n\n\n\nPT continues: \n\n\n\n“We actually know little about pansexuals and pansexuality. This is unfortunate because pansexuality is a real thing with repercussions and importance among millennial youth who are searching for identities that adequately reflect who they are.” \n\n\n\nPansexuality hasn’t come out of anywhere\, like a passing fad worn to make one seem more interesting. It isn’t unnecessarily overcomplicating bisexuality. It is simply a label for sexuality that would still exist without one\, despite not conforming to the limited views of society. \n\n\n\nLinks \n\n\n\nThe Truth About Pansexuality: https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/sex-sexuality-and-romance/201711/the-truth-about-pansexuality

SUMMARY:The Trans+@Workplacepride community invites you to: “Gender Euphoria: What is Trans Joy?”
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nTo bring extra attention to the International Transgender Day of visibility on March 31\, the Trans+@Workplacepride Community\, is organizing together with the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences part of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam the hybrid workshop. \n\n\n\n                                     – “Gender Euphoria: What is Trans Joy?”-                                  \n\n\n\nHas it occurred to you that so much attention on the trans+ experience in the media is focused on the negative aspects? Not only is it evident from the term “gender dysphoria”\, which carries the negative dys- prefix\, as is it emphasised by the medical community\, pop culture\, or academia.  \n\n\n\nWhilst it is true that that focus is needed to bring attention to and help with pressing issues\, the risk is that the community might let itself be defined by this negative sentiment. However\, for many there is a lot of joy in truly living as yourself. A more appropriate term describing this positive forward-looking view would be gender euphoria.  \n\n\n\nFor the trans+ community\, this can come from bodily experience\, physical presentation\, social relationships\, inclusion\, as well as cultural representation\, similar to cis people’s affirmation of their identities. \n\n\n\nIn order to introduce and discuss this topic from various perspectives\, several panellists are invited: \n\n\n\nSophie Jeckmans (she/her) – PO&CL at ING / Trans woman / Lead Trans+@Workplacepride CommunityDylan Drenk (he/him) – Psychologist\, Psychosocial Expert\, and PhD Candidate1 to 2 more Panellists Forthcoming(Moderator) Savannah Fischer(she/her) – VP Europe\, Fischer Solutions / Trans woman\n\n\n\nAddress :   Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences\, Erasmus University                   Rotterdam\, Burgemeester Oudlaan 50\, 3062 PA Rotterdam  \n\n\n\nLocation :   Campus Woudestein —  Van der Goot building \n\n\n\nDate :         30 March 2023Time :        16:00 – 17:30 – Followed by bites & drinks \n\n\n\nAttendees :    Workplace Pride Members onlyRegistration closes on Friday\, March 23rd.Trans+@WorkplacePride & Erasmus University are looking forward to welcoming you on March 30th.

SUMMARY:Insights into Supplier Inclusion and Diversity
DESCRIPTION:Last year the BeNeLux LGBTIQ+ Business Chamber (BGLBC) was established to unite and validate LGBTIQ+ entrepreneurs so that they can participate in existing or new Supplier Diversity programs. Similar Chambers exist in the Nordics\, Germany\, Central and Eastern Europe\, and Italy\, and these are united under the umbrella of EGLCC\, the European LGBTIQ Chamber of Commerce. There are numerous chambers outside of Europe too\, notably in North and South America. \n\n\n\nFour experts and business professionals will give insights to supplier diversity practice from different perspectives\, followed by a Q&A. By the end of the event\, you will know why supplier diversity and inclusion matters. You will understand what is the importance of LGBTIQ+ Business Chambers\, their objectives and their work (beyond supplier diversity). \n\n\n\nAnd finally\, you will learn why to engage with LGBTIQ+ suppliers\, what are the business advantages and why it is important for a social change. \n\n\n\nThis hybrid event\, co-hosted by the BeNeLux LGBTIQ+ Business Chamber and Workplace Pride was made possible with generous support from EGLCC\, the European LGBTIQ Chamber of Commerce and GGLBC\, the German LGBTIQ+ Business Chamber. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM  \n\n\n\nDATE: 16 March 202316:00 Doors Open16:30-18:00 Presentations18:00-19:30 Networking Reception \n\n\n\nLocation:Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club\, Grote Zaal\, Dam 27\, 1012 JS Amsterdam \n\n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\nThe event is free of charge but requires registration to attend in person or online. SUMMARY:Free to Be Me Roundtable in Manila
DESCRIPTION: Free to Be Me Program:  Socio-Economic Roundtable\, Manila \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor a more just\, fair\, dignified and prosperous society\, everyone should have equal rights\, responsibilities and opportunities. Unfortunately\, communities part of the LGBTQIA+ can face discrimination and stigma and may be the targets of social exclusion\, sometimes\, even in the workplace. In our workplaces\, creating an environment where everyone can be themselves is a priority for modern businesses. People that feel included in society and at work are more productive\, are healthier and can make a greater contribution to socio-economic progress. \n\n\n\nOur forthcoming round table\, “Building a more Inclusive Socio-Economic Environment for LGBTQIA+ in the Philippines”\, aims to bring together civil society and business representatives to raise awareness\, to start conversations and to build a commitment to future dialogue especially in the socio-economic development space. This round table event is focused on creating and sustaining connection and collaboration between civil society\, business and diplomatic sectors for the benefit of underrepresented communities across the region. Working together\, these organisations can shape the narrative around Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion with confidence and with purpose. \n\n\n\nThis round table is being organised by Workplace Pride in conjunction with HIVOS whose mission is to build movements for just\, inclusive and life-sustaining societies. The event will be hosted by IBM Philippines. Participants to this invitation-only event will include key decision-makers from civil society organisations\, from local and multinational businesses in the Philippines\, as well as policy makers\, influencers and academics. We have a great line-up of speakers and we intend to maximise audience participation.

SUMMARY:Academia@Workplacepride & Student Pride invites you to the Purple Friday Hybrid lunch session
DESCRIPTION:Hot topic: What about gender registration?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event:Purple Friday is a day on which pupils and students can show their solidarity with LGBTIQ+ people bywearing the colour purple at school. In the Netherlands\, the day has been held on the second Fridayof December every year since 2010. Purple Friday was inspired by Spirit Day in the United States\,which was first held in 2010 as an expression against bullying of LGBTIQ+ youth.Purple Friday is traditionally celebrated at schools but over the last couple of years\, we’ve seen thathigher education and corporate workplaces are embracing this celebration of solidarity with theLGBTIQ+ community. During this hybrid lunch we’ll explore the Purple Friday theme: acceptance\,equality\, and safety of all people of the LGBTIQ+ community in higher and secondary education froma management and student perspective. The student generation is increasingly bothered by theregistration of gender. What positive steps can we take to get a good response to this? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease register via this linkWe have limited in-person space so it is first come first serve

SUMMARY:Tech@WorkplacePride Company visit – 16 November 2022 – Maersk Rotterdam
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, Maersk\, the global integrator of container logistics\, received the “Best media representation award” from Workplace Pride\, for the campaign with their rainbow containers. A good reason to get to know Maersk a bit better and visit them in Rotterdam. \n\n\n\n Learning from best practices fits the goals of the Tech@WorkplacePride group. During this event\, Maersk will therefore inform us about their D&I strategy. Maersk will also give us a peak into their world of logistics\, huge vessels\, and the port of Rotterdam\, which is particularly interesting for the Tech@WorkplacePride community.  \n\n\n\nFor the participants\, it also creates the opportunity to get in contact with other tech companies and D&I officers\, on the bus while visiting the terminal\, and during dinner and drinks downtown Rotterdam. For Maersk\, it will not only increase their visibility for the LGBTIQ+ community in general but also contribute to awareness about the community at the workplace of Maersk. Please follow this link to find more details about this amazing event.

SUMMARY:Intersex Day of Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:November 8: Intersex Day of Solidarity (IDS)\, or Intersex Day of Remembrance\, marks the birthday of Herculine Barbin\, a now famous French intersex person. \n\n\n\nIntersex Day of Solidarity\, also known as Intersex Day of Remembrance\, takes place on November 8. The Day marks the birthday of Herculine Barbin\, a French intersex person whose memoirs were later published by the philosopher Michel Foucault\, along with contemporary texts and a later fictionalized account. \n\n\n\nIn Starry\, Starry Night\, the short life of Herculine Barbin\, Leslie Jaye writes that what little we know of Herculine Barbin has all but obscured the person known variously as Herculine\, Alexina and Abel\, during her short life. \n\n\n\nThe event appears to have first been held on 8 November 2005\, as Intersex Solidarity Day. Joëlle-Circé Laramée\, the then Canadian Spokeswoman for Organisation Intersex International\, issued a call for all persons interested in intersex human rights to commemorate the day.

SUMMARY:NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY
DESCRIPTION:NCOD was inaugurated in 1988 by Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary. Eichberg\, who died in 1995 of complications from AIDS\, was a psychologist from New Mexico and the founder of the personal growth workshop “The Experience”. O’Leary was an openly lesbian political leader and long-time activist from New York\, and was at the time the head of the National Gay Rights Advocates in Los Angeles.[3] LGBT activists\, including Eichberg and O’Leary\, did not want to respond defensively to anti-LGBT action because they believed it would be predictable. This led them to establish NCOD in order to maintain positivity and celebrate coming out.[1] The date of October 11 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.[1] \n\n\n\nMost people think they don’t know anyone gay or lesbian\, and in fact\, everybody does. It is imperative that we come out and let people know who we are and disabuse them of their fears and stereotypes.– Robert Eichberg\, in 1993[3] \n\n\n\nInitially administered from the West Hollywood offices of the National Gay Rights Advocates\, the first NCOD received participation from eighteen states\, garnering national media coverage. In its second year\, NCOD headquarters moved to Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, and participation grew to 21 states. After a media push in 1990 NCOD was observed in all 50 states and seven other countries. Participation continued to grow and in 1990 NCOD merged their efforts with the Human Rights Campaign.[1] \n\n\n\nNational Coming Out Day is observed annually to celebrate coming out and to raise awareness of the LGBT community and civil rights movement. The first decades of observances were marked by private and public people coming out\, often in the media\, to raise awareness and let the mainstream know that everyone knows at least one person who is lesbian or gay.[1] In more recent years\, because coming out as LGBT is now far less risky in most Western countries\, the day is more of a holiday. Participants often wear pride symbols such as pink triangles and rainbow flags. \n\n\n\nNational Coming Out Day is also observed in Ireland\,[4] Switzerland\, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.[5] In the United States\, the Human Rights Campaign sponsors NCOD events under the auspices of their National Coming Out Project\, offering resources to LGBT individuals\, couples\, parents\, and children\, as well as straight friends and relatives\, to promote awareness of LGBT families living honest and open lives. Candace Gingrich became the spokesperson for NCOD in April 1995.[1] From 1999 to 2014 the Human Rights Campaign announced a theme to go with each NCOD:[1]” \n\n\n\nOne of the sources: Wikipedia
